Qinghai Lake

Qinhai Lake or the Koko Nur means “a blue lake” in Mongolian and it is the largest salt lake and inland lake of China having a surface area of about 4,600 sq. Km. It is located at a distance of 100 kilometers from west to Xining which is the capital city of Qinhai Province and one of the most popular attraction of that area. This lake is fed by more than 40 rivers but mainly by Inverted River, Habu River and Gbagbolan River.

On the western side of this lake at the tip of the peninsula are the Bird Island or Cormorant Island and Egg Island which are having bird sanctuaries of the Qinghai Lake Natural Protection Zone since 1997. This lake often remains frozen for four months continuously during winter from December to March.

Khanka Lake

Khanka Lake is also known as the Xingkai Lake in China and is a transborder freshwater lake located on the borders between Heilogjian Province of the Norther China and Primorsky Krai of Russia. It has an area of about 4200 square kilometers out of which 72 percent is located in Russia and 28 percent is located in China.

This lake actually consists of tow lakes, that is Khanka Lake and the Khanka Lake Jr. and these two lakes are separated by a sandy hill. The latter one is the serenity lake which is located in China. The area around these lakes has been an important habitat of the wetland and has formed National Nature Reserve on the Chinese side and Khanka Land Nature Reserve on Russian side.

Poyang Lake is third largest lake and largest freshwater Lake of China. It is located on the southern bank of the Yangtze River and to the northern part of the Jiangxi Province. It is also fed by the Xin, Gan and Xiu rivers and some other small streams. This all contribute to a total surface area of 35 hundred square kilometer and volume of about 25 sq. kilometer. The average depth of Poyang Lake is about eight meters during abundant period
